That's nice of you to say, but one doesn't have to be an uber...anything to see that what ought to be logical and civil behavior is most often avoided in the contemporary West. The leadership of any sort is weak, with the so called "leaders" only existing to play one person off against another person.

One always has to be careful, since modernity's interpretation of colonialism is a caricature. Modernity eschews "paternalism" as belittling and undesirable. However, noblesse oblige means something different. If you are weaker, I will pull you up higher. At least in theory. It doesn't always work out that way, but that is the ideal of spreading this concept, "civilization".
